The Harz Mountains are one of the most popular regions for hiking in Germany. With its extensive network of trails and countless highlights along the way, the region offers almost endless opportunities to spend an extended hiking vacation in the magical mountain world. The Hexenstieg or the Goethesteig from Torfhaus to the Brocken are just two of our recommendations.
After an extensive hiking tour in the Harz Mountains, however, everyone looks forward to relaxing. That's why the accommodation is just as important as the trails: relax, enjoy good food, get a good night's sleep and start the next tour fresh and rested the next day. As a “hiker-friendly host”, you've come to the right place.

There are so many beautiful opportunities for hiking near Bad Sachsa.
We have put together an overview of four of the most beautiful hiking routes around our hotel - all tried and tested by ourselves, of course ;-)
• Length: 6 km
• Elevation gain: just under 155 m
• Duration: approx. 1.5 hours
A hiking tour to the Sachsenstein castle ruins from Bad Sachsa is a pleasure even for inexperienced hikers and is particularly rich in discoveries. The remains of the Romanesque castle are located approx. 2 km south-east of Bad Sachsa and there is also plenty to see in the Priorteich/Sachsenstein nature reserve. Enjoy the beautiful nature along the Sachsenstein cliffs, the striking rock formation that is part of the southern Harz karst landscape, past the Zwergenhäuslein, a small cave, to the Priorteich pond, which was created by the monks of Walkenried Monastery.
Devilishly beautiful and hellishly exciting
On the Harz Witches' Trail, the Harz Mountains present their guests with a very special fairytale and mystical side. Tours here become a real experience. The legendary Brocken is just one of the many highlights of this exciting long-distance hiking trail, which stretches across the entire Harz Mountains and crosses the Harz National Park. But it's not just fans of fairy tales and legends who get their money's worth on this route. The “magical” Harz landscape also delights nature lovers and pleasure hikers. The trail is also adorned with a series of artistic installations, the so-called “experience islands”, which point out interesting but often hidden details along the way.
Tip: As a long-distance hiking trail, the Hexenstieg is divided into several stages.
• Length: approx. 18 km (outward and return journey)
• Elevation gain: just under 390 m
• Duration: approx. 5 hours
• Difficulty: medium
Follow in the footsteps of the poet Goethe from Torfhaus to the highest mountain in the national park. The Goethe Trail to the Brocken is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Harz National Park. It is named after the famous German poet and thinker Johann Wolfgang Goethe and follows his probable ascent from Torfhaus to the Brocken on 10 December 1777. There is much to discover along the way, e.g. the National Park Visitor Center in Torfhaus, parts of the route along the Brocken Railway, the Brocken plateau, the boardwalk across the Great Torfhaus Moor and much more. • Length: approx. 4.5 km (circular walk)
• Duration: approx. 1.5 hours
• Difficulty: easy
Easy circular hike on comfortable hiking trails with historical and botanical highlights. This hike leads along easy paths with minimal incline from the Torfhaus National Park Visitor Center around the Great Torfhaus Moor, one of the large raised bogs in the Harz National Park. A small part of the moor can be crossed on a boardwalk. In addition to a clear view of the vast, treeless moorland and a magnificent view of the Brocken, you can also discover real carnivorous plants and other rare inhabitants of the moor. Along the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the “Oberharzer Wasserwirtschaft” and the historic Kaiserweg, an early trading route between Nordhausen and Bad Harzburg, you hike through nature that is transforming into wilderness.
