CERTIFIED DIEMELSTEIG

Into nature: The 63 km long quality circular hiking trail can be hiked in 3 or 4 stages. Fascinating views and a largely natural route will inspire you. The route of the Diemelsteig leads through green valleys and over striking mountain ranges of the Diemelsee Nature Park. With 1700 meters of ascent and descent, it is one of the medium-difficulty hiking trails in Germany. On the Diemelsteig you can hike the entire region around the Diemelsee. You can start from all towns along the route, and the trail itself is very well signposted. The "Path of Silence", a particularly quiet section of the route, awaits you between Flechtdorf and Schweinsbühl.

Notes:

• Backpack food recommended,
there are no places to stop for refreshments or restaurants directly on the trail

• Hiking without luggage possible thanks to good bus connections or call-and-share taxi (AST)

Numerous circular hiking trails

The Diemelsee holiday region has a dense network of great and well-signposted circular hiking trails. A total of 32 circular hiking trails lead from designated hiking car parks through the beautiful natural landscape with idyllic villages and fascinating panoramic views.
 

Diemelsee Panorama Trail - Quality Tour

The Panorama Trail offers a very beautiful and varied hike in the northeast of the Sauerland and is 9.7 km long. Magnificent views reward the little effort at the beginning. What comes after that can simply be described as enjoyable hiking. Various valleys with ever-changing views and panoramas, paths through fields and meadows and beautiful rest areas for backpack supplies - everything a hiker's heart desires. 

• Start & finish: Florenbicke hiking car park, Seestraße Heringhausen
• Length: 9.7 km
• Elevation gain: 260 m ascent, 280 m descent
• Level of difficulty: moderate
• Signage: PW
• Note: no refreshment options, please bring food in your backpack

 
Hike around the Diemelsee

Take a walk around the Diemelsee on the 12.7 km long circular tour. On this route you can explore the lake in all its facets. The exciting and family-friendly hiking tour can be started from anywhere and is a hike with no significant elevation gain, which is also suitable for strollers.

• Length: 12.7 km
• Duration: approx. 3 hours
• Elevation: 130 m ascent, 130 m descent
• Level of difficulty: easy
• Signage: H6
• Note: There are several places to stop along the way in Heringhausen and at the dam.

The idyllic villages around the Diemelsee also invite you to explore and linger. There are numerous, well-signposted hiking trails in the 13 districts of the Diemelsee municipality.

• Circular trail H2 - Siekesweg - 4.5 km

• Circular trail H3 - Around the Schörenberg - 4.8 km

• Circular trail H4 - Around the small Eschenseite - 5.3 km

Sauerland soul places

The Sauerland soul places are special places where people hike and where they can switch off. They are special places and moments as well as spectacular views where you can enjoy the peace and be inspired. At Diemelsee you will find several of these soul places - particularly impressive places with special meaning:
 

• Summit of St. Muffert

Rocky mountain peak covered in deciduous forest and moss with a view of Diemelsee.

• Diemelsee dam

The wall symbolizes both protection and danger.

• Flechtdorf monastery church

A quiet space beyond updates and downloads.

Hiking trails: Soul place hike "Kloster Flechtdorf" or along the Diemelsteig - 1.5 km
 

• Adorfer Klippen

The red cliffs are a good place to let your inner child run free.
