Active in the water

Beaches on the Diemelsee

Limitless bathing fun for young and old is available on the Diemelsee at three bathing beaches with beach cafés and children's playgrounds.

The Heringhausen lido is the most extensive opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the Diemelsee. A marked-out non-swimmer area, showers, sunbathing lawn, sales kiosk, lounge area, large water slide, play equipment, sandpit and a nature trail about life on the lake are free of charge. There is also a rental service for electric and pedal boats, a mooring for the excursion ship MS Muffert, a bathing jetty and a floating pontoon. You can also enjoy pure bathing fun free of charge at the Seebrücke / Hohes Rad lido or the Helminghausen lido.

Diemelsee family and adventure pool

In the family and adventure pool in Heringhausen with a children's pool area, sauna, indoor and outdoor pools and sunbathing lawn in summer, you can really let off steam and relax at the same time. Floor bubblers, salt grotto, massage jets and waterfall showers contribute to physical well-being in this exercise pool.

Heated outdoor pool Vasbeck

The only outdoor pool in the Diemelsee community is in Vasbeck. The pool has a fast stainless steel slide, a diving board and two starting blocks. For the little ones there is a paddling pool with a slide and a water-spraying turtle. In addition to a very well-kept lawn, the sunbathing area has a covered seating area, three rocking animals for children, a table tennis table and shade from trees and parasols. The sauna cabin has space for up to 15 people.

Open May - September

Stand-Up-Paddling

SUP rental & courses

Stand-up paddling is the latest trend and should definitely be tried out. There are two places on Lake Diemelsee where you can rent boards, e.g. from the Stand Up Paddle Club Paderborn. They rent inflatable boards at the favorite paddling spot, Diemelsee, and also offer courses for beginners and advanced paddlers.

You can test your skills on a stand-up paddle board and discover the lake in a whole new way. A fun, easy and completely environmentally friendly way to play on the water and at the same time a full-body workout for everyone.

Boat rental, canoeing, diving, sailing

Boat rental Stefan Koch

Explore the Diemelsee from the water! Take on the captain's hat and helm yourself and rent a pedal boat/rowing boat, electric boat or rowing boat! The boats can be driven by anyone without a license.

Canoeing

Experience the fascination of canoeing on the dammed Diemelsee or on a unique natural whitewater stretch on the Diemel. This gives you the opportunity to enjoy the attractive landscape from a completely different perspective.

Canoe rental KombiNaTour

Diving

Exciting areas and a mysterious underwater world - in addition to the abundance of fish, there is a lot for divers to discover in the Diemelsee! Diving is permitted in the designated diving bay between the Diemelsee dam and Heringhausen. The diving zone allows dives with a maximum diving depth of 30 m. The visibility is approx. 10 m and you can see the rich underwater world. A special permit is not required.

Sailing

Sailing with your own sailboat is permitted on the entire Diemelsee; a special permit is not required. There is no sailboat rental service.

Mini golf at Diemelsee

Adventure Golf Park with Diemelsteig Hut

The new type of mini golf is a long way from the asphalted, monotonous and boring courses of the old mini golf courses. Instead, there are long lawns that are shaped in different ways and have obstacles. Visually eye-catching, visual thinking and creativity are now required to get to the hole. The Diemelsee Golf Park is also absolutely unique. It consists of 13 courses, representing the 13 towns in the Diemelsee municipality, and each course also represents a highlight of the certified Diemelsteig hiking trail. After a round of golf, you can indulge in culinary delights in the cozy Diemelsteig Hut.

Marsberg Mini Golf Course

The mini golf course in Marsberg is located on the banks of the Diemel, surrounded by a small forest and yet in the middle of the city. The 18-course course is open from March to October. The facility remains closed in bad or cold weather.

Helminghausen mini golf course

The mini golf course is located in the middle of the village, right next to the old manor house.

Diemelsee Dam

An impressive building from the imperial era

The Diemel Dam is nestled in the hills of the Waldecker Upland and the Hochsauerland. It was built from barely weathering greenstone (diabase) that was mined just below the summit of the Eisenberg, which rises to the right of the dam. The Diemelsee Dam is a building that exudes strength and power and can be explored on a small circular path at its base. The dam's job is to release water according to the needs of shipping on the Upper Weser. The dam and the power station building are now listed buildings.
The overflow of the Diemel Dam is always a great spectacle - usually at the beginning of the year.

Diemel Donuts & Corn Maze

Diemel Donuts

Explore the lake in a relaxed atmosphere on Diemel Donuts - an experience and fun for everyone. Depending on the size, the Diemel Donuts can accommodate eight to ten people. One person takes on the role of boat driver and steers the donut. However, this is child's play, quiet and environmentally friendly. The Diemel Donut is controlled and powered by an electric outboard motor. The control panel allows the Diemel Donut to be controlled with one hand and the speed to be regulated. The Diemel Donut does not require a license. There is a table top module that can be equipped with a charcoal grill, a table top or an ice cream bowl as desired.

Corn Maze in Ottlar

The corn maze in Ottlar on 15,000 m2 is great leisure fun in beautiful nature and magical surroundings. A clever network of wrong paths is painstakingly mown by hand into the cornfield, leading you criss-cross through the corn. Visitors learn a lot of interesting facts about corn cultivation and agriculture. An observation tower invites you to look out over the entire cornfield and try to memorize the wrong paths.

Excursion destinations in the region

Baroque town of Bad Arolsen

In the middle of the Waldeck region is the baroque town of Bad Arolsen with its landmark, the Residenzschloss, the former residence of the princes of Waldeck and Pyrmont. It was built in 1710 as a magnificent three-wing complex during a 100-year construction project. It is not for nothing that it is called the "Versailles of Northern Hesse" - with its baroque palace complex with all the features of a residence 300 years ago, the palace today invites you to take guided tours through the princely rooms. The Bad Arolsen Museum with the Christian Daniel Rauch Museum, the Christian Daniel Rauch Birthplace, the Kaulbach House and the Schreiber House as well as the museums in the districts are also worthwhile excursion destinations.

Hanseatic City of Korbach

The more than 1,000-year-old district town of Waldeck-Frankenberg has an attractive town center with medieval buildings and half-timbered houses. The well-preserved old town is a testament to Korbach's great past. The St. Kilian Church, the St. Nikolai Church, the town hall, the Gothic warehouse and the preserved remains of the town wall are particularly worth seeing. Or follow in the footsteps of the gold seekers on the Eisenberg Gold Trail. Another tip: The Korbacher Spalt - one of the world's rare fossil deposits in which evidence of numerous Permian vertebrates has been passed down to posterity. The finds document the point in the earth's history when the original reptiles developed into the respective ancestors of dinosaurs and mammals.

Willingen adventure region

The internationally known World Cup resort of Willingen is the winter sports and hiking paradise in the mountains of the Sauerland and offers a wide range of leisure activities in every season. Whether nature, sport or adventure - the variety and quality make the place very close to the Diemelsee a popular excursion destination. Discover the summer toboggan run, glass factory, Ettelsberg cable car, Hochheideturm, recurring top events and much more. The SKYWALK Willingen is also worth seeing right next to the Mühlenkopfschanze, Germany's longest self-supporting suspension bridge.

The Visionarium is open all year round and is a weather-independent nature experience exhibition.

Flechtdorf Monastery

Discover the monastery complex with its two towers and the nearby pond complex on a guided tour and experience a piece of history from the 12th century.

Grube Christiane Visitor Mine

A fascinating world - not just "underground": The visitor mine in Diemelsee-Adorf shows the 800-year-old tradition of ore mining. The 90-minute tour is led by former miners, who vividly explain to visitors the working conditions and techniques of the various centuries. In the interactive information center, the formation of iron ore, its mining and everyday working life can be experienced first hand before or after the tour using numerous exciting hands-on stations, films and pictures.
