The panoramic circular trail is an easy hiking trail at a constant altitude with beautiful views of the Rhön and the Thuringian Forest. Art on the hiking trail in Hesse - Runde Haunek, Bad Hersfeld. The basic idea of ARS NATURA is to set up art trails along the X8 and X3 long-distance hiking trails. The artistic works, which are largely made from ecological materials, are deliberately thematically related to nature and place. In contrast to the narrowness of the museums, the artistic presentation principle here in the “Gallery Space Nature” is landscape-related dispersion.
The hiking trail leads from the village church in Hauneck-Unterhaun through the village via forest paths to Bad Hersfeld's Johannesberg, continuing through fields with wonderful views of river valleys and the mountains of the Vorderrhön, back to Unterhaun.

The circular hiking trail with many beautiful panoramic views over the Herfabach valley and the village of Herfa. In addition to the beautiful distant views and panoramic vistas, there is much more that makes this hiking trail in Hesse so unique. The cool beech forest areas or the Himmelsteich pond and the Herfabachtal valley complement the circular hiking route in a wonderfully balanced way.
One of the most densely wooded and historic hiking trails in Hesse is the Tor Trail, which is 7 km long. Starting from “Roter Platz” in the middle of the municipality of Friedewald and passing a lot of forest nature, the hiker learns after 1.9 km why this path is called Tor-Weg: it has found the entrance to the predecessor village of Friedewald. The first thing you notice are the excavated foundation walls of the church. This probably belonged to the village of “Hammundeseiche”. It was completed in 1141 and consecrated by the diocese of Würzburg. The foundation walls with the semi-circular apse were built up to a visible height. The village of Hammundeseiche, comprising around 20 farms/houses, was laid out by the Abbot of Hersfeld in the early 10th century. The round, brick-built village well, the village pond and the “big oak”, which has probably been watching the events around it for over a thousand years, are still visible. From the village, which was reported as abandoned around 1312, you can walk about 600 meters towards the country road and marvel at the equally famous eye of the needle. From there, the way back to Friedewald is 4.1 kilometers or back to the parking lot at the edge of the forest 2.5 kilometers.
