History
Göbel's Schlosshotel - in the footsteps of the former Landgraves of Hesse
Historical ambience meets modern luxury.
Göbel's Schlosshotel is part of a castle complex from the late 15th century and served as the administrative seat and hunting lodge of the Hessian landgraves. It owes its central location to the intersection of two historic old roads (an escort route from Frankfurt to Leipzig and a trade route between Bremen and Nuremberg), which have retained their significance to this day.
The imposing moated castle ruins, an almost square building with four corner towers, are completely surrounded by water-filled moats and date back to the 13th century, when it was initially used as a fortress. It was then converted into a moated castle in 1476.
The entire castle complex was rebuilt in the middle of the 16th century. The castle buildings in front of the moated castle with the magnificent three-bowl fountain were built around 1600. After a siege by the French, the moated castle was partially destroyed in 1762 and is now a picturesque ruin.
Since 1997, a castle hotel has been integrated into the former outer bailey of the popular Jadgschloss in the Seulingswald, a blend of historical building fabric and modern interior design apercus that takes you back to the time of the Landgraves of Hesse with its moated castle. The house with its stylishly furnished gastronomic rooms invites you on an exciting journey through time.
If you embark on this visually appealing “tour d'horizon” with all your senses, you will be richly rewarded: memories of a time when landgraves still dined behind ostentatious walls. Today, of course, things are more peaceful behind the venerable walls of the “First Class” destination. “We offer our guests a historic castle ambience, first-class gastronomy, luxurious rooms and suites. Last but not least, our exquisite, spacious spa area turns our guests into loyal regulars,” says a delighted Markus Göbel.
Since 2002, the Schlosshotel with its spacious grounds and idyllic castle park has been owned by the Göbel family of hoteliers from North Hesse and is run as a 5-star hotel - a place to dream and enjoy.

The Göbel's Schlosshotel “Prinz von Hessen” has been awarded the DEHOGA environmental check in GOLD! The hotel thus fulfills the specified requirements, is considered a pioneer in environmental protection and shows that economy and ecology go very well together.
In four areas - energy and climate protection, water conservation, waste disposal and food / purchase of regional products - the businesses must demonstrate sustainable and environmentally friendly management in order to receive the award.
With the DEHOGA award, Göbel's Schlosshotel can demonstrate an independent and transparent review of its environmental standards. The hotel will of course continue to strive for sustainable management.
