The Fulda Cycle Route R1 stretches 255 km from south to north in the Hessian countryside. Thanks to its integration into a dense network of regional cycle paths, the R1 cycle path is ideal for day trips and other excursion tips. The river cycle path leads through the gentle, green low mountain range with almost no inclines. You can look forward to a relaxed cycling experience thanks to the numerous rest stops and refreshment stops along the way and the moderate altitude profile.

For ambitious cyclists, we recommend linking up with the Eder, Weser or Werratal cycle paths for a sporting challenge.

From Rotenburg an der Fulda to the famous abbey ruins - the venue of the annual Bad Hersfeld Festival. The tour starts at Rotenburg railroad station, along the historic town center with its old half-timbered houses. After 30 km on mostly paved paths, you will reach the highlight of the tour: the abbey ruins in Bad Hersfeld. What is now the largest Romanesque church ruin in Europe became a venue for plays and events in the first half of the 19th century. After a short tour through Bad Hersfeld, past the town wall, historic town hall and Lullusbrunnen fountain, the route heads back towards Rotenburg along the Mischelsweg along the Fulda. Enjoy the beautiful view of the river while your bike almost rides itself on the well-paved cycle path.

This medium-difficulty mountain bike tour starts at the Hotel Rodenberg and leads along a beautiful circular route through the beautiful countryside above Rotenburg an der Fulda. The tour includes sections where cycling is prohibited - you have to dismount and push for a while. There is also a short, very steep climb.
