The Fulda Cycle Route R1 stretches 255 km from south to north in the Hessian countryside. Thanks to its integration into a dense network of regional cycle paths, the R1 cycle path is ideal for day trips and other excursions. The river cycle path leads through the gentle, green low mountain range with almost no inclines. You can look forward to a relaxed cycling experience thanks to the numerous rest stops and refreshment stops along the way and the moderate altitude profile.

For ambitious cyclists, we recommend linking up with the Eder, Weser or Werratal cycle paths for a sporting challenge.

The starting point of this circular tour is the Posthotel Rotenburg, located right next to the train station. After 30 km, the route leads you along the historic town center with its old half-timbered houses on mostly paved paths to Bad Hersfeld. The highlight of this route is the abbey ruins - the venue of the annual Bad Hersfeld Festival. What is now the largest Romanesque church ruin in Europe became a venue for plays and events in the first half of the 19th century. Discover the town of Bad Hersfeld during your tour, past the historic town hall with the Lullus Fountain and the town wall, before continuing towards Rotenburg. On the way back, enjoy the beautiful view of the Fulda along the well-paved Mischelweg before returning to the Posthotel.
