Gold was once actually mined in Eimelrod! Even today, old shafts, spoil heaps and tunnels bear witness to gold mining between the 11th and 15th centuries. Information boards tell the exciting story of this period. The gold, which was bound in the rock, was dissolved out and accumulated as so-called “placer gold” in the sediments of the rivers. With a bit of luck, you can still find it today. So go on a treasure hunt, follow the gold trail and don't forget your sieves!
Although the volcano has long been extinct, a “hot trail” leads to the Grotenberg. On the volcano trail, hikers repeatedly discover traces of the earth's history and historical boundary lines. The volcano and its deposits have had a lasting impact on the landscape and cultural development around Welleringhausen. There is another, shorter circular tour nearby. The history trail explains interesting geological features and takes you on a short journey through geological and cultural history.
The section from Schwalefeld to Rattlar on the Upland Reflection Trail is dedicated to children. Small wooden panels depict animals that need to be “rescued” and brought to “Noah's Ark”.
