Christian Mitterbacher, better known as “Mitti”, conjures up unforgettable moments of pleasure on your plate with passion, precision and a fine sense for the extraordinary. His culinary journey began with an apprenticeship as a chef at the Hotel Europa in Salzburg (1984-1987), where he learned the basics of his craft. From young chef to chef de partie, on to sous chef and finally head chef - his career has been characterized by constant growth, diligence and perfection.
He gained valuable experience in some of the most prestigious restaurants in Europe and was named “Discovery of the Year 2000” in Gault Millau for his outstanding achievements. He has been part of Michelin-starred restaurants and top kitchens with up to 18 Gault Millau points, including the Relais & Châteaux Hotel Les Sources des Alpes (Leukerbad) and Restaurant Jöhri's in St. Moritz.
In addition to his impressive career in upscale gastronomy, Mitti was self-employed for over 20 years and ran his own restaurants with great passion and entrepreneurial skill, which were awarded up to 15 points by Gault Millau.
Since November 2023, Mitti has been running the kitchen of our Landhotel with his unmistakable signature style. His specialty? Simplicity at the highest level - whether refined classics or bold new interpretations, his focus is on taste and authenticity.
In his free time, he is drawn to the mountains - hiking, skiing, mountain biking or climbing, he enjoys nature and recharges his batteries for his culinary creations. Let yourself be surprised and enjoy culinary delights that come from the heart!
Regional lamb weeks in the restaurant of Göbel's Landhotel
Lamb from the local mountain heaths of the Diemelsee Nature Park enriched the culinary offerings on our menu in January 2023. It is a high-quality food with species-appropriate husbandry, short transport routes, an important contribution to climate and nature conservation and it helps to secure jobs - including for the shepherd families. We support the mountain heath lamb project in the Upland and Sauerland and thereby demonstrate our responsibility for sustainable action.
In addition, "the quality is excellent and convinces in terms of taste and freshness," says head chef Christian Mitterbacher enthusiastically.

We focus on quality from the region! We source our meat from the local butcher Figge in Willingen. They work with a lot of passion and craftsmanship to deliver the best regional products. Thanks to this partnership, we can guarantee short delivery routes, maximum freshness and sustainable production - for real enjoyment with a clear conscience.
Regional, sustainable and naturally delicious - our dairy products come from Upländer farmers dairy, directly from the region. The dairy focuses on fair farming, the highest quality pasture milk and gentle processing. The milk comes from local farms - without genetic engineering and with a lot of love for nature.
For our cuisine, we use the best fruit and vegetables from our local retailer Früchte Querl in Willingen. We focus on seasonal variety: whether crunchy asparagus in spring, juicy berries in summer or hearty pumpkin in autumn - with us you can enjoy the best that nature has to offer.
